Sanctuary horses: Sanctuary horses are those horses that required special care and will continue to require special care usually on daily day to day basis. These horses are permanent residents at American Heritage Horse Rescue, but we do make every effort to adopt out as many healthy horses as possible. Sometimes the permanent residents find forever loving homes elsewhere as companions for other horses if our resident horses are assured the daily care they require at the forever home.
Adoptable horses: Adoptable horses are those that are accepted at AHHR as unwanted, abandoned, or purchased at auction to avoid the kill pens and are in reasonably good health. Some are brought back to a healthy condition after much care. All adoptable horses are up to date on all vaccinations, dental and farrier services. Adoptable horses are trained or retrained to ride. Adoptable horses are never rehomed to anyone further than 3 hours from AHHR facility.
Companion Horses: Companion horses are those that are in good health and do not require an excessive amount of daily day to day care. They may not be able to be ridden but make great companions for other horses at the facility. These horses include some of those in their golden years.
